134. Mondays don't suck, your attitude does

Monday's suck. Listen, it's all about attitude. It's about how we approach things. I know that Monday for most of us is the beginning of the week and this is where everything starts, and sometimes it's easy for us to get into the funk of ah, ah, ah, ah, and it's slow and I don't want to, I don't feel like it, and so on. The way I look at it I like to look at it is, monday is my favorite day. This is where I'm returning back to training. This is where I can focus on new goals. This is where I can start executing and chipping things away to achieve my milestones. This is the most exciting day. This is the day where I have the most energy because I did have Sunday off and, excuse me. Now I can regroup and I can begin the next several days of work and really working towards what I'm aiming for.

Speaker 1:

But again, oftentimes the mental state, the mental approach to quote-unquote Monday and it doesn't have to be Monday, it could be actually Friday or Thursday or Wednesday A lot of people are hyper focused on the Wednesday because it's the middle of the week. And, listen, it doesn't matter which day it is, it doesn't matter. Actually, what is stopping us? What doesn't matter. How do we approach it? What is your mental approach to training? It doesn't really matter which days, which day it is. Today Is the day that you should be training or you resting. Is the day that you're drilling or you're going to the class. It's the day where you're going into sparring sessions. It's the day when you are taking time off. Which day is it? And that really what should matter. So what I suggest to all my students is develop your training schedule, whether it's twice a week or seven times a week, whether it's once a week or twice a week, but have a schedule. And once you have the schedule, this is where you can become really, really powerful from efficiency perspective, because you do have your hard days and you have your lighter days, you have your drilling days and then you have your study days and then there's your rest days. In between all of this, and as long as we stick to the schedule, life is much, much, much easier. And this is not only pretending to jujitsu, this is just general operations on every single day, with everything that we do, with our jobs, with our families.

Have schedule. I'm heavily schedule oriented person. Without much schedule, I completely fall apart. It is chaotic for me not to know what I'm doing each day and what the what tasks are and how I need to do things. I know you are not me. I know we are all different people, but my strong suggestion to everybody is develop a schedule, and it doesn't have to be anything comprehensive, doesn't have to be another huge, but the point is that schedule is the key, is the foundation of what we do, how often we do it and how we plan things out in the future.

So, whether you train twice a week or seven times a week, whatever the intensity of your training is, you should know which days you come, which days you recover, which days you study, which days you drill and which days you have your hard, hard working days. See, once we have this developed, mondays don't exist. It doesn't matter if it's a Monday, friday or Sunday. You have a assigned task to that specific day. When it comes to your training, it's much, much, much easier.

And the second part of this conversation is really that and I mentioned this a little bit earlier is this mentor attitude of how do we approach things as humans. It's very easy for us to be in that quote unquote, funk, right, get rid of it. Get rid of it completely. Get rid of it. Set your mind in a different way, don't you guys listen? Be excited about training. If you're not excited about training, why are you training Like? That's a big question.

Speaker 1:

My mind is every time I come on a mat, I'm stoked. Every time I come to the academy, I step into the facility, I get excited. I get excited to meet my students, I get excited about training. I get excited about studying and really stimulating my mind. It is fun and I love it. And I know that we all have bad days, including me. There are days when I wake up that things don't go according to the day and it's a more sucky day. But no matter what, the moment I step onto that mat, my mental approach changes. This is my happy place. This is a place where I'm thriving, I'm happy and I'm happy to work, regardless which day it is. But I do stick to my plan.
